Guest Information
(or everything you really didn't want to know - but I'll tell you anyway!)
In House Services
Mt. Buller Condominiums can arrange
in house baby sitting and therapeutic and remedial massage in the comfort of
your unit. Bookings are essential –at least 7 days in advance. We can also
provide cots, high chairs and baby bath – a fee will be charged for these items.
Ski & Boardriding School
Please note that there is no creche on Mt. Buller – the Bunyips program at the
Ski School is available to children 3 to 5 years of age – children must be
toilet trained, and proof of age and immunisation may be required, due to
Government Regulations. This is a skiing program, not a child care facility,
so children attending classes are required to have appropriate clothing, skis,
ski boots, and Bunyip ski ticket (which may be purchased in the Village or at
Ski School). There are half day or full day programs available which include
ski lesson(s) snacks, lunch & activities. Lesson only tickets are not available
for the littlies. Ski and Boarding lessons are also available for older
children & adults – details are in winter brochure & website
www.skibuller.com.au or
www.mtbuller.com.au.
Security Deposits
A bond of $500 to $1,000 per apartment is required on or before arrival – this
is usually a credit card imprint and not charged to the guest’s account. It is
refundable within 14 days of departure provided the apartment is left in a clean
& presentable state. Failure to comply will incur a full cleaning fee. All our
apartments are privately owned (by families) and we trust that our guests will
enjoy their stay with us, while respecting other people’s property.
We issue one (1) key per apartment,
again a bond of $10 is required for additional keys and will be refunded on
check out when keys are returned.
Unit Contents
All linen, crockery and cutlery is provided together with washing powder,
dishwashing powder, washing liquid, hand soap, toilet paper and cleaning
supplies. We do not provide tea, coffee, toiletries, condiments etc. There
are no telephones in units, but there are a public phones located within the Mt.
Buller Village, or local calls may be made from our office.
Ski & Clothing Hire
We recommend that ski equipment be
hired on the mountain – this makes life easier if there is a problem with
settings on skis, boots that don’t fit, etc. There are numerous ski hire shops
in the Mt. Buller Village and they provide everything including apres boots,
snowboards, skis and clothing for adults and children. We offer a 10% discount
at some ski hires for our guests.
Supermarket & shopping requirements
Because our apartments are fully self
contained, you will probably need to purchase groceries for your
self-catering. There is a small licensed supermarket in the Village, it
usually closes at 6p.m. A fax order service is available with 2 large
supermarkets in Mansfield – they will deliver your order to your door for $3.30
per box. Orders can be made through Reception, or prior to your arrival –
again this is easier than lugging everything up here!
Resort Entry & Car Parking
If you are driving to Mt. Buller you
will need to hire snow chains for your vehicle, even if it is a four wheel
drive. Snow chains are required to be carried by all vehicles entering the
Resort in winter – the fines for failing to do so are pretty hefty, including
loss of demerit points, and the Police DO check frequently. If you forget the
chains, they are available at Mirimbah Store at the base of Mt. Buller just
before the entry gate to the Resort. This is also the last available petrol
stop – there are no service stations past the Resort gate. There is a Resort
entry fee which also covers car parking – prices attached. If your vehicle runs
on diesel ensure that you have ALPINE DIESEL mix in the vehicle before
proceeding to Buller – if you don’t, you could find your fuel tank full of glug
due to the low temperatures here. Also, ensure that your radiator has
anti-freeze – again very expensive exercize if you don’t.
Due to parking restrictions, guests’ vehicles are not permitted to enter the
Village in winter. There is a four wheel drive taxi service which collects
guests from the car parks situated below the Village, and also from the bus
parking area in the Village. They will transport you & your luggage to your on
mountain accommodation and run from 7am each day until midnight (Sunday to
Thursday) - 2am (Friday night/Saturday) and 3am (Saturday night/Sunday). This is
NOT a free service. Prices are: to/from village & lodges from all overnight car
parks, Andrew’s Corner & above $11 Adult single (one way) & $22 return; $7 child
single (one way). A family ticket for 2 adults & 2 children is $28 (one way) &
$56 return. Fare includes 2 items of luggage, skis, boots and poles. Excess
luggage costs $3.50 per item.
Now we are into the 21st century the
gate entry, parking & transfer (4 wheel drive taxi fare) can be paid in one lump
sum at the Mirimbah gate. Hooray, hooray – no more fiddling for change in the
dark while freezing and trying to load all your goodies on to the taxi. These
tickets, and Lift tickets are also available at Mansfield Visitor Info. Centre
(old railway station building) Maroondah Highway – left side of road, just
before you enter Mansfield from Melbourne. If you prefer not to drive all the
way to Buller, car parking is available at about $13.50 per day in Mansfield
through Mansfield-Mt. Buller Bus Lines, phone (03) 5775 2606 – it may save you
the hassle and expense of chains, anti freeze, etc. etc. and you can catch the
bus!!
Dining Out
There are many bars & restaurants
within the Mt. Buller Village. Mt. Buller Condominiums does not have a
restaurant, but the many bars within the Village are open daily for cosy drinks
and snacks. Should you wish to dine at any of the great eateries on Buller, we
recommend you book for evening meals well in advance – especially for weekends.
Reservations can be made through our office.
Just in case
Mount Buller Medical Centre operates
during the entire winter season with medical staff on hand 24 hours a day (for
emergencies) and is open during normal business hours. A doctor is on site
together with Ski Patrol and Ambulance services. Visits to the Medical Centre
are not bulk billed, so please bring your Medicare card and make sure you can
pay at the time of consultation. We strongly recommend travel insurance and
AMBULANCE cover for our guests just in case – a trip to the closest hospital in
Mansfield (50 km) by ambulance is over $700!! The air ambulance helicopter
service is considerably more and accidents do happen.
Just on that note, if you are
intending to snowboard, please buy/hire/borrow some wrist guards – it may save
you having to know all about the above paragraph.
Getting around the Village
Now for the good news - not much is free these days, especially in a holiday
resort, BUT the Mt. Buller Village shuttle bus is!!! The service runs every day
from 8am to 6pm (later on Saturdays) - approximately every 15 minutes and will
transport you, your skis, your kids and day pack to Ski School, Village centre
and basically anywhere else in the Village ALL FOR FREE! We usually train the
bus drivers to stop outside our various apartments (although the designated bus
stops are close to all accommodations) because we all have skis, kids, etc.
etc. This service will not carry passengers with luggage (you have to pay for
that).
Other stuff
Check in time is 4pm and check out is
10am. Don’t despair, we have luggage storage facilities if you arrive early, or
want to ski and play before you leave – a fee may apply for this service. We
also have public toilets on the premises where you can change out of your ski
gear before you leave – we don’t expect you to travel home with a wet behind and
soggy socks! You will need to book your taxi back to the car park, and we are
happy to do this for you at our office.
For those of you who prefer not to
drive
Should you choose not to drive there are other options. Mt. Buller Ski Express
travels to and from Buller every Wednesday, Friday & Sunday from Tullamarine
Airport & CBD Melbourne – phone 1800 800 905. APT offer transport to & from
Buller daily from 7am & return 8.30pm – including overnight stays – phone 130
655 965, Email:
daytours@aptours.com.au. Buller Bullet Daytripper offers daily travel to
Buller, including transfers – phone 1800 355 565. A snow limo service is
available through Mansfield-Mt. Buller Buslines, phone (03) 5775 2606.
